Testimonials from our Monthly Surveys!

Maddie as usual goes above and beyond all the time and I thank you for that .

"We love how much outside time he gets and love our teachers, especially Hannah!"

We are so thankful for Miss Josie! Everynight at bed our kiddo asks if Miss Josie is sleeping too. She constantly draws pictures and tell us it is Josie as well! Melts my heart!

Bhuvana has been communicating well, we love her text updates. Robby is so excited to go to school and says Bhuvana’s name over and over so happily on the drive to school. This speaks VOLUMES to the care and how safe and happy he is at school. We’re so grateful he’s having such a good experience.

Olivia is always there to take Jack at drop off. In the short time he’s been there, he has really taken to all the staff. I appreciate you all very much.

Oliver has loved being at school, talks highly of his friends, teachers, overall school experience! He is learning so much. I swear he comes home with something new he has learned and every time he is asked where he learned it, he says at my school! From polar bears and how they hibernate in the winter to gravity and the space station. He is learning so much. Huge thanks to Ms. Emaire and Ms. Kandice. Fabulous! Loving this school for my son!

"We love all the notes Alyssa sends about our child’s day! The lessons they work on at school are clearly reflected at home."

Huge thank you to Saryssa for encouraging us to start potty training, making the effort to speak some Spanish with Bash and for providing great support and action items through a few behavioral challenges. We are so grateful!

Maddie steps up all the time and we're so happy she was in class and for managing picture day!

Maddie and Emarie make me feel like Victory is their little neice and I feel super secure with her in their care. I always observe Ms. Candice being very intentional and calm with the children and she is quick to explain things to me so I understand her approach. So happy with the staff and VV loves them all.

"Our kid loves coming to school and is always talking about how Miss Maddie helps her. Thank you so much for taking such good care of my little princess!"

"We were a part of the Montessori school transition, and I can’t tell you how pleased we have been with the whole process. Selva and Maddie truly care about the quality of care these children receive."

I am incredibly blown away by how smooth our first month was! The transition was seamless, and my mama heart is so full. Miss Saryssa has been such a huge help during this change for Emerie! Drop offs are easy because ms Saryssa takes the time to connect with her and build a routine. I feel like I am leaving Emerie with a family member or close friend; that’s the energy she brings! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing us with such an amazing experience so far. We can’t wait for the future at TWS!🩷✨

Our daughter loves going to school and feels so secure here. We especially love how well Miss Alisa interacts and communicates with the parents; I came in for pick up the other day and she was reading a story to all of the kids. Everyone was hanging on her every word - it was so cute! We also love when Miss Paulina does her “hair salon,” it’s the little details that show us the teachers are paying attention and care!

We love how Miss Cat has an update/story for us every time we pick up our toddler. She knows everyone by name, pays attention to their development, and is excellent at communicating with parents. Our toddler loves her and it’s so obvious that she loves the kids!

  • Welcome to TWS

Welcome to The Wonder Schoolhouse (TWS), a year-round preschool and early childhood school serving children from infancy through age 6. Conveniently located in Sandy, our campus is easily accessible just off I-15 near the 9000 South exit. TWS offers a thoughtful alternative to traditional childcare through high-quality early education rooted in curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Our program combines a S.T.E.A.M.-based curriculum with Reggio Emilia- and Montessori-inspired learning, giving children daily opportunities for hands-on exploration, independence, problem-solving, and social-emotional growth. We are a school at our core, committed to helping children thrive in a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally intentional environment.

At TWS, we believe exceptional early education should be both meaningful and accessible. Our year-round model gives children the consistency they need to grow with confidence, while our community-centered approach helps families feel supported every step of the way.

  • What Makes TWS Different?

What sets TWS apart is our holistic approach to early childhood education. We create a rich, engaging learning environment that supports children’s intellectual, emotional, and social growth through thoughtful, developmentally appropriate experiences each day. Our commitment to building a strong community shines through our monthly family events, which foster meaningful connections between families and staff.

Transparency is central to who we are, and through the Brightwheel app, we provide frequent updates so parents feel informed and connected throughout the day. We also believe high-quality early education should be accessible, which is why we offer financial aid and tuition discounts to support families in our community.

“My son just started here a few months ago, and we love it. The teachers have been wonderful with him, it’s so refreshing to receive pictures and updates throughout the day. The owner is attentive, caring, and knowledgeable, which really adds to our confidence in the school. We’re so glad we found this place for our 1-year-old! :)”

  • Cassidy Barlow - Parent

“My daughter has been going here for 10 months now and it has been the best decision ever to enroll her here. We had her enrolled somewhere else (deposit down and everything) but toured this school and knew this is where our daughter needed to be. She has learned so much since being at the Wonder School House and has made best friends.”

  • Jenna Barrington - Parent

“We chose Wonder Schoolhouse first because they were willing to help with potty training our stubborn 3-year-old, where other early education programs don’t allow toddlers who aren’t fully independent with toileting! We’ve been grateful for the team at this school everyday for creating a safe, fun, and loving environment for our son. They work tirelessly and passionately for their students and are committed to evidence-based methods. We also appreciate the diversity here, which can be hard to find in Utah!! They’re also so loving towards our LGBTQ family and unique dynamics with coparenting in two households. We feel supported and have so much respect for the owner Selva and her assistant director Maddie. Our son adores his teachers and his friends and has made so much progress!!”

  • Bethany O'Neil - Parent

“Every aspect of this little school has been a wonderful surprise. Our daughter adores school, she eats with gusto, she loves her friends, she takes good naps and she is learning so many amazing things. We are shocked at how well our daughter has taken to the experience.”

  • Leslie Shipler - Grandparent

“My granddaughter Gracie has been attending this school. Selva has been so amazing and Gracie truly loves going to school. She never wants to leave because she has so much fun!”

  • Saidhbhin Killion - Parent

“This school is amazing! It was my first time sending my daughter to daycare and I was terrified. They send picture updates through out the entire day. My daughter is always happy at pick up & has nothing but good things to say about it! I totally recommend this place!🤎”

  • Maddie Beckstead - Asst. Director & Parent

“I started working for The Wonder Schoolhouse in October of 2023, and it’s one of the absolute best decisions i’ve ever made. I absolutely adore going to work everyday, and I love being able to create these in depth lesson plans and be able to create bonds with each individual child. My own daughter is starting here in July and i couldn’t be happier!! (i am one of THOSE moms and don’t trust anyone with my baby, but absolutely trust her here!) she loves her teachers and so do i! working here is such a joy everyday!!”

  • Alyssa Powell - Teacher and Parent

“I have had the pleasure of working at The Wonder Schoolhouse for only a few months now, and I couldn't be more grateful for this experience. The environment here is truly nurturing, both for the children and the staff. It's so rewarding to work in a space where every child’s unique needs and growth are prioritized, and the atmosphere is always positive, creative, and welcoming…

It’s rare to find an employer who is so attuned to the well-being and development of their team, and that’s one of the many reasons I love being part of the Wonder School family. If you're looking for a place where children thrive and employees are respected and supported, I highly recommend The Wonder Schoolhouse!”

  • Hannah Skiba - Asst. Director

“I’ve worked here for a year now and have LOVED it!”

  • Lily Fielding - Toddler Teacher

“I’ve been working at TWS since April and have adored every second of it!”

  • Rachel Holladay - Toddler Teacher

“I work with the tots and will be working at the new location until I leave in August to live in Oregon! If there is something I should leave with you, it’s that Selva will be your best friend. She is an advocate for her girls and genuinely the best boss I’ve ever had.”

Why Choose The Wonder Schoolhouse?

  • A True Village for Families

TWS is a strong fit for families who want to feel part of a real village. We are deeply community-based in the way we communicate, build relationships, and partner with parents throughout the school year. Through thoughtful communication, family involvement, and monthly community events, we create an environment where families feel known, supported, and connected. For many parents, TWS becomes more than a school. It becomes part of the village they have been looking for.

  • Our Educational Philosophy

The Wonder Schoolhouse was intentionally designed to preserve what works in approaches like Reggio Emilia and Montessori while addressing the gaps many modern families and children still experience. Built on a Reggio-inspired foundation with S.T.E.A.M. elements and Montessori scaffolding, our program uses what we call curriculum frameworks to create learning that is thoughtful, responsive, and developmentally appropriate rather than rigid or one-size-fits-all.

  • Behavior Philosophy

Our behavior approach is built on proactive prevention, not constant correction after the fact. Developed by Selva through research and hands-on experience, our model combines social-emotional learning, strong classroom systems, and secure attachment with teachers and administrators. We teach children that their choices are separate from who they are, which lowers shame, preserves dignity, and helps them make better decisions. Because of this intentional approach, intense behavioral issues are uncommon in our classrooms.

  • Toddler Program

Our toddler program is designed around the major work of early childhood: learning to communicate, move, explore, and gain independence. We focus intentionally on language development, gross motor confidence, climbing, early self-help skills, and potty training readiness, while also laying the foundation for future academic learning. Children receive monthly curriculum experiences aligned with milestones so their days feel purposeful, engaging, and supportive of who they are becoming.

  • E-Preschool Program

Our early preschool program bridges the gap between toddlerhood and more formal preschool learning. At this stage, children are ready for more structure, deeper engagement, and more detailed curriculum, while still needing plenty of play, movement, and relationship-based support. We help children strengthen attention, communication, independence, and classroom habits so they are not just older, but truly more prepared for the next level of learning.

  • PreK Program

Our Pre-K program offers a highly intentional, detailed curriculum designed to prepare children not only for kindergarten, but for a lifelong relationship with learning. We focus on helping children learn how to think, ask questions, solve problems, and stay curious. Our goal is not rushed academics for appearance’s sake, but genuine readiness, and nearly all of our students score kindergarten-ready by age four.

  • Infant Room

Our infant room is a warm, loving environment where children are cared for with deep attentiveness during the earliest stage of development. We focus on nurturing first skills like connection, communication, movement, sensory exploration, and trust, while creating a calm space where babies can grow at their own pace. It is a gentle, relationship-centered beginning designed to help infants feel safe, known, and deeply cared for from the start.

  • Accessibility & Financial Support

We believe high-quality early childhood education should be more accessible to families. TWS offers financial aid, discounts, and flexible support options to help make enrollment more attainable for a wider range of households. Our goal is to meet families where they are while maintaining the quality, consistency, and care that define our program. We are committed to making meaningful early education feel possible, not out of reach.

  • Transparency & Parent Partnership

We know that for many families, trust is built through communication. That is why transparency is a core part of the TWS experience. Through regular updates in Brightwheel, open communication from our team, and a school culture that values clarity, parents are able to stay informed and connected to their child’s day. We do not believe families should feel shut out from their child’s early learning experience. We believe school and home should work together.

Parent Satisfaction

Every month we ask our parents to rate us on a scale of 1-10. Here’s how we are doing this school year.

9.75/10

Reggio Emilia vs Montessori: Understanding the Difference

Both the Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches are rooted in child-led, hands-on learning, but they differ in structure, philosophy, and execution.

Montessori Approach

Prepared Environment: Montessori classrooms are highly structured, with carefully designed materials that support self-directed learning.

Individual Learning: Children work independently or in small groups, choosing from a variety of materials at their own pace.

Teacher’s Role: Teachers act as guides, introducing concepts through materials rather than direct instruction.

Practical Life Skills: A strong emphasis is placed on real-world skills, self-care, and independence.

Mixed-Age Classrooms: Montessori environments often group children in multi-age settings to encourage peer learning.

Reggio Emilia Approach

Emergent Curriculum: Learning is based on children’s interests, with projects evolving over time through exploration and discovery.

Collaborative Learning: Children work together in groups, fostering social development and teamwork.

Teacher as Co-Learner: Teachers observe, ask questions, and participate in learning alongside the children rather than directly instructing.

The Hundred Languages of Children: Emphasizes various forms of expression—art, movement, storytelling, and more—to support learning.

Documentation & Reflection: Learning is recorded through photos, notes, and portfolios to capture children’s thinking and progress.

Blending Reggio Emilia and Montessori at The Wonder Schoolhouse

Child-Led Exploration with a Thoughtful Structure

  • Like Montessori, our classrooms provide well-organized environments with hands-on materials for independent learning.

  • Like Reggio Emilia, children’s interests shape the curriculum, allowing flexibility in lessons and projects.

  1. A Balance Between Individual and Group Learning

    • Montessori’s focus on self-paced learning supports independence.

    • Reggio’s emphasis on collaborative learning helps children develop social-emotional skills.

  2. Creativity Meets Practical Skills

    • Children engage in real-world, practical tasks inspired by Montessori.

    • They also express themselves freely through art, storytelling, science, and sensory experiences inspired by Reggio Emilia.

  3. The Role of the Teacher as a Guide & Partner

    • Teachers observe, document, and facilitate learning, drawing from Reggio Emilia.

    • They also introduce Montessori-style materials to encourage hands-on discovery.

  4. A Deep Connection to the Environment

    • Montessori promotes a prepared, organized space that encourages independence.

    • Reggio values the classroom as a “third teacher”, where learning happens through interaction with materials, nature, and peers.

    • Our vast outdoor spaces provide the perfect setting to bring both of these philosophies to life, allowing children to explore freely while still engaging in structured learning.

Why This Unique Collaboration of Philosophies Work?

By merging these two approaches, The Wonder Schoolhouse provides an environment where children:
Develop independence through structured, self-led exploration.
Engage in meaningful, project-based learning that keeps them curious.
Learn through play, social interaction, and creativity, which supports holistic development.
Experience a well-rounded education that nurtures practical skills, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.

This blended approach ensures that learning is child-centered, hands-on, and responsive, making it more effective, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for young learners.
